Autumn decorations are colorful, textural, and beautiful. Blinging-up our homes with gourds, branches, pinecones, pumpkins, berries, witches, black cats, and lots of candles speaks of fall. However, if are trying to sell your house, show restraint when decorating.

Service. In my 10 years of staging, I have yet to see new pictures taken when seasons change. While festive, holiday decor quickly dates your house in marketing pictures. (I've seen pumpkins on porches in March.)
Stale, out-of-date pictures can really turn a potential buyer off. Why would they want to buy a house passed on by so many others?
I hope you are enjoying a beautiful Fall day.

such a savvy statement! I love that you decorated your dil's chandy. You're a cutie!
ReplyDeleteYou know how it is when the creative bug bites--you have to do SOMETHING! I wasn't home so resorted to playing in her house.
ReplyDeleteGreat advise!
ReplyDeleteThanks Taylor!
DeleteRight on!
ReplyDeleteLesson, don't hire a Realtor who puts Seasonal pictures in their MLS listings!
Patty, when you were in real estate did agents take pictures with the change of season? Maybe since the market has changed and houses aren't sold as quickly they don't think about it?
DeleteGreat advice, Linda. I don't know how many times I've seen MLS listings with snow on the ground and Christmas trees in April - looks sad.
ReplyDeleteI am a big realtor advocate but I don't get when they don't go back for updated pictures.
