Warning: Throws Are Alive

Throws are a savvy style statement.  Throws add color, texture, and warmth to a room.
I probably have 25 throws in my inventory.  When I started staging, I always used throws. Now, not so much.  Why?

Throws are alive.

Throws move and never, ever stay in the same position.

Throws are deft at grabbing any person, animal, or bag that skims by them.

The rooms above were styled by a photographer's assistant.  Each drape carefully placed.  I can say from experience that the flat throws had a thousands swipes to work out the lumps  It is blow-your brains-out-maddening to get fringe straight.  Notice that most of the pictures don't show the bottom edges of the throw.

It's because throws are alive and they can shift whenever they are inclined.

So beware if you are staging your house for sale, styling your house for photographs or even getting it pretty for visitors.  Omit the throws unless they are caged in a basket.

Have a great week!

Linda

  2. LOL!!! That's good advice! I love throws but my kids make me crazy when I have one out by not leaving it alone!

  4. My sister hired a stager and a professional photographer when she was selling her house last spring. Everything in the photos looks great--except the throw on the living room sofa. It is such a mess that your attention focuses on it. I saw it in person, though, and it looked great. No one was in the house moving things between the staging and the photographing. Those things do have a life of their own!

    1. That's a great story to illustrate my point, Adele! I have put them in vacant houses and they have moved!

  7. Thanks Linda. I think they are meant to be messy but we try to wrangle them into perfection.

  8. After struggling to keep throws in place in my own home, I gave up and they live in a basket in the family room. Can't imagine trying to get them "picture perfect".

Oh, I forgot....there is one at the bottom of the bed - a foot warmer. But nobody touches that during the day, so it's fine where it is.

    1. Yes Heather a basket for a throw is like crating a pet. I am staging a house and actually pulled one to use because the are so great for adding color. I won't, however, try to make it perfect.

  9. Too funny! Do you think they are like little elves moving about at night and making mischief?
