Mirror, Mirror

Hi everyone! I hope your weekend was fun and relaxing.  We are really getting a taste of Fall weather on the East Coast, lots of rain, and the leaves are beginning to turn.

Remember when I attempted the DIY mirror painting project?  Y'all gave me lots of great advice on fixing it.  I decided to try the Rub 'n Buff in gold.
What do you think?  It is missing something....no?  I like the up close detail but from a distance it's not very impressive.

Here's the befores:
It was black and beat up when I bought it.  I tried a light blue spray paint. It looked  fuggly and blah with no dimension.

Then off I go to Michael's for the Rub 'n Buff.  I tried it on a metal vanity tray for practice. That was a complete bust. (I think I was a wee bit to heavy handed.)  A couple of weeks passed before I worked up my nerve to try it again.

This time I used a chubby dry brush with the gold Rub 'n Buff. I squirted a dab into one of those plastic medicine cups that comes with cough syrup--that's how I tried to control my application. I got much better results.  Yet, I don't think this is finished....

I'm open to more suggestions.  I see so many great DIY projects on other folks blogs!  I'm determined to keep trying.

  1. Maybe, just maybe, more of the gold on the rounded two "frames". I know the gold can get out of hand, but I think? that it needs more definition.

    1. Oh, the ovals around the mirror? I can try that! Thanks Patti!

  2. I agree with Patty. Also, it might just be where it is hung. It might have more impact on a smaller wall where it is "talking to" the other objects.

    1. Good to know Kerry! That's not its forever home. It was the only place where I could get enough light to get the picture.

  3. I'm proud of you grasshopper. With things like these, you are only done when you say so. (I agree, a little more on the high spots for definition)

    1. Grasshopper says "high compliments, coming from the Master of all things DIY." I'll hit again when the mood strikes. Hmmm...I need to know if DIY-ers plug through even if they aren't in the mood...another post another day.
