Gasly or Gorgeous Guest Rooms

When I consult on homes it amazes me how often guest rooms are neglected.  Folks will clean like they were prepping for surgery, blow the bank on groceries and cook an exotic meal to impress company.

Yet lumpy beds with worn comforters prevail.  The lack of amenities is crazy wrong!  No dual lamps on bedside tables, no clocks, plugs covered so guests can't charge their phones, no extra blankets, pillows, towels.  Then their are the throw-me-down pillows from the master or college.  I could wax poetic for many paragraphs....  Why are guests rooms always the last rooms to get attention?

Wouldn't you rather stay here?

I also like to leave current magazines, a popular books, candy dish with chocolates, a bud vase with a pretty bloom, and a small basket with little shampoos, conditioners, shower cap, asprin and other personal items my guests might have forgotten.

  1. Linda, I can not agree more. I am sure you are tired of seeing our Epiphany Suite! I have so much fun with that room!

    1. Patty your Epiphany Suite is Lux! I bet your guests never want to leave that beautiful bed. You're suite has all the amenities and I love that you leave a wrapped present as a surprise for your guests.

  2. You're so right, Linda. Many times guest rooms are a result of cast-off furniture and no amenities. The worst guest room I've ever stayed in is no guest room at all but a blow-up bed in the living room. Homeowners were up super early, making tons of noise while we tried to sleep till sunrise. This was last year, not college days when you really don't mind.

  3. Oh Heather that sounds dreadful! If I can make even one person upgrade their guest bedroom my work is done :)

  4. Hi, Linda! We're currently finishing up our guest room. Unfortunately it's getting some leftover furniture. But, we're definitely getting a new and good quality set of mattress and boxspring. Nothing worse than sleeping on a worn out mattress!! Just experienced that at a B&B in England :(
