Que Sera Sera

Remember this house that I was supposed to stage after it was painted?
Taupy-Pink-Brown Living Room

Blue Dining Room and Red Office
The new-to-me realtor emailed me right before I was supposed to stage saying,"hold the phone...we have an offer.  I'll let you know".  I sent my congrats!  SOLD is always the desired result! A week passed. No word from the realtor. I checked MLS and the house  was still active. Hmmm..... I contacted the realtor.  She told me "the offer is still good".   A few days later, I saw on MLS that the house had been staged.

Yes, I am grousing....just because I hate that she played The Big Fib card.  I've been in biz 10 years and I've never had anybody pull this crap-o-la.  When I sent her an invoice for my prep work she pulled the-big-nasty and retorted that she was not going to pay me, "because you didn't do anything".

Que sera sera. (Whatever will be, will be.)

My business is typically referral driven.  No contracts required. (My Daddy always said, 'my handshake is my word').  Luckily, I've always had the pleasure to work with  nice, very honest sellers and agents.  We are a team: owner, agent and stager.  The goal is to get the house sold. I don't intend to change because I had an unfortunate, disingenuous agent.  I'll just keep plugging along.  I will do what I do best.

Thanks loves, for letting me vent....just kinda needed to!

  1. Vent away, my friend, vent away. I think it's a good thing you found out about this realtor early on in your relationship - they were going to screw you one way or another. Good thing you didn't put too much more effort into it.

    1. Thanks for your support, Heather. It is kind of funny that the realtor didn't realize I was prepared to load the house to the max. I need to get things out of my house for the hardwood floors! You are right--glad I didn't invest too much into this relationship.

  2. WOW....This "Realtor" needs to go back to school on ethics! What would it have cost her if she had been honest with you up front? Nothing! The moment they began working with a new Stagger they should have contacted you. It's a sign of a very poor Realtor and no professionalism.
BTY, how does the house look on MLS?
Vent away Girl, we need to do this every now and then.

    1. Patty, the MLS pictures are not good. (It took every ounce of restraint not to post them and do a critique. However, being nasty is never the best response.) Thanks for letting me vent! I appreciate getting your input from being a realtor.

  3. That is really sad. You have the right attitude though - don't let that one dishonest person ruin it for you. I work the same way - by referral / no contract and have the attitude that if someone wants to be dishonest that is their problem. It all comes around in the end.

    1. Thanks Sweet Sherri. It is encouraging to hear that you work the same way I do. The rewarding aspect of working by referral is sustaining quality relationships. That is makes our work so much more meaningful than a job.

  4. Wow, I didn't know she used another stager, that's just wrong. She should have been honest with you. I'm assuming she never paid you for your time for prep work. You know what they say about Karma...if the house doesn't sell soon, I'd say the owners have to suffer because of the Realtor's bad Karma...or poor choice of stagers!!!

    1. Hey Virginia, no she refused to pay me. (I told her I didn't just magically show up the day of staging with the trucked packed. LOL!) The Karma Fairy will pay her a trip fer sur!

  5. I just thought of something else to add: SHE LIED TO YOU!!!
    That is not ACCEPTABLE!!!
Is this Agent a "Realtor"? If so, then this almost would be cause to report to the local Realty Board of Realtors. If not for a try for monetary reasons, but mostly for ethically reasons.
Filing a formal "complaint" should be asked for.
What have you got to lose?
Just a thought as the day has progressed!

    1. Patty how lovely that you have been thinking about my problem and coming up with solutions! I cc'd my attorney on my last correspondence with her. After the dust has settled, I've decided I can't 'afford' to waste any more energy on her. Thanks. (Filing the complaint has crossed my mind.)

  6. Soooooooooo not cool! You should send a small gift - a book on the code of business ethics. Guess what, karma is a britch so not to fear, she'll face worse one of these days.

    1. Thanks, Nichole. I have zero tolerance for folks that lie! Crazy thing is I told her if she was price shopping I would prefer not to be considered.

  7. That is just sad- surely most adults know that honesty is the best policy, especially when it comes to their business. Oh well shake it off and good things are sure to come!

    1. Shake it off is exactly what I intend to do. I believe everything happens for a reason. Something better is on the way!
