STAGER KNOWS BEST and Confessions from a Potty Mouth

Good news! It looks like AH took my advice!  I checked MLS and found these pictures of his house after they self-staged from my report. (The 'stupid door' can now be seen and used by potential buyers. Hooray.)

While I enjoy staging, I really appreciate when a seller can follow my instructions for self-staging.

Potty Mouth Confessions:

One of my best buds called me and was concerned about my use of  "Asshole" in my last post.

"It is your public image."
"Your blog is advertising you."
"It is a public forum and is forever."
"I don't think people will think it is good you referred to your client as an Asshole."
"You could have said "Jerk" instead of Asshole."

I guess I should apologize.  Sorry.  I write like I talk. Yep, my posts are definitely "in my own voice".  I've never been particularly politically correct. My blog is my forum for teaching and my therapy for venting!  I talk to my readers as my friends.

Sock it to me.

Offended? Yea or Nay?

  1. I wasn't offended but I was shocked. Your friend is right--it is your public image and your professional one. I think even "jerk" is inappropriate. It is one thing to vent privately to your friends and family but the internet is public forum. Edit yourself if you want to be taken seriously as a professional.

Were I a realtor, I would think twice before hiring you based on that post. If you said that about him, what might you say about me if I disagreed with you? People out there who may recognize that home and know the homeowner. The homeowner might see the post and then bad mouth you to others. Then they might not want to hire a realtor who works with you.

It's great to have your personality shine through and the post had good teaching points. I think they could have been made without resorting to an ugly word.

  2. Linda - as both a former professional stager, design AND Real Estate Broker, I agree with Adele. My whole thought when I was reading your post was...what if he saw that post or someone he knew saw the post, etc. As a Blogger, I think its important to write from our heart and write how we speak, but as a Realtor and business owner we do not always have that option. Also, just an FYI - do you have permission to post pictures from your local MLS? ( I know our MLS had strict rules about it.) I would hate to see you get into some legal trouble.
No, I was not offended. And have many times called clients that same thing to myself, bit never in a public forum when he could see it. But..I feel your pain. :)

  3. Thanks Linda for weighing-in. I'm not defending myself, but, to your points: I have known the seller for many years and he won't be offended. He is not going through an agent. (He and I argued about that one, too.) I will check on the MLS rules. THAT one I was not aware of! I believe the seller's wife took the pictures. Perhaps I should credit her. You are so sweet to give me your time and attention. I am so appreciative. I'm am taking all the advice to heart.

  4. I was not offended by your post. What I love about your blog is that you are real and genuine and I feel like you talk TO me not AT me. And that is what keeps me coming back to read your blog. So glad the "stupid" door is now accessible!!!

  5. I wasn't offended either. But then again, I'm not in "the business" and read your blog for enjoyment. Which I do enjoy very much. You write like you talk, I do the same thing. That's why there's rarely proper punctuation in my posts.

That being said, I understand what the commenters above are saying.....AH might understand, but a potential client might not.

    Hugs and chin up.

  6. Linda...so sorry to agree with the ladies above...if a future client saw your blog and was offended.. they might not use you...but I do understand your frustration...clients can be difficult...and there are many times I want to call them the same thing! I do enjoy your blog and have learned a lot...we are going to sell our studio and I have to turn it back into a home and stage it...wish you lived closer...I could use some help!

    1. Thanks Taylor for your comment. I guess I'll need to change AH to "Buddy"--not a potty mouth reference! Feel free to send me any questions or pictures. I'll happily answer your questions, my friend.

think that you should write more about this issue, it might not
be a taboo subject but generally people do not talk about
